
Weekly Summer Programs
All weekly programs are drop-in. No sign-ups are required and age ranges are suggestions: older and younger children are welcome to attend. If you have any questions about age suitability, please contact the library.
Summer Steam: Tuesday @ 10am – July 11th to August 8th
Summer STEAM is for children in elementary and early middle school. Each week has new projects and new skills to learn, making art and learning about science. July 25th will be a special Sew Together STEAM day; older helpers are welcome!
Story Hour: Thursday + Friday @ 10am – July 13th to August 10th
SRP Story Hour will be hosted by Miss Robin and Miss Julie and is for young children from babies to kindergarten age. It includes a story, songs, activities, crafts, and fun sensory bin play!
Lunch Bunch: Thursday @ 12pm – July 13th to August 10th
The Lunch Bunch with Miss Julie is for children in early elementary (grades K-3+) but is open to children of all ages. Bring a light meal or snacks from home and enjoy a story over lunch and special crafts!
July & August Special Events
All events are free and open to the public. Events are drop-in unless otherwise specified.
Wildlife Encounters – Junior Zookeeper & SRP Kickoff: July 6th @ 10am
Start off Summer with a visit from Wildlife Encounters and their Junior Zookeeper program! Everyone from children to adults are welcome to the library for the chance to meet some amazing animals up close and learn more about them. There will also be free giveaways in celebration of the start of Summer Reading!
Social/Emotional Skills for Young Children: July 6th @ 6pm
Designed for parents of young children and early childhood teachers, join us for a presentation about social and emotional development in young children held by Nottingham resident Lynne Bova.
Singalong Summer Start-up: July 7th @ 10am
Celebrate the start of SRP with all your favorite story hour songs! Open to children of all ages, but aimed from babies to kindergarten age, come enjoy a story, singing, crafts, and more with Miss Julie and Miss Robin!
Flower Arranging: July 11th @ 10am
Open to adults and older teens, this drop-in activity will be open all morning. Create your own unique flower arrangement using locally grown, fresh-cut flowers.
Gruffalo Storywalk Premier: July 13th + 14th @ 10am
BML’s Storywalk returns with a brand new tale: “The Gruffalo,” by Julia Donaldson. Take a tour during story hour with Miss Julie and snack on some Gruffalo Grumble or visit on your own all summer long!
Cookie Decorating: July 19th @ 4pm – 6pm
A favorite returns for children and teens! Decorate a cookie to match the theme of “All Together Now!” Enter it into the cookie contest and let the library vote on their favorite or simply eat what you make. Every participant leaves with a cookie!
Therapy Dog Story Hour: July 21st @ 10am
This week’s story hour will have a very special and very friendly guest: Koda, the therapy dog! Read along with them and have fun with dog-themed crafts and activities.
Flying High Agility Dogs: July 22nd @ 1pm at the Marston Property
Join BML for an amazing agility show full of tricks and excitement, brought to you by Mike Piazza and the Border Collies of Flying High Dogs! This program is being held off library property.
Craft Together: Knitting Lesson: July 29th @ 10am
Try something new or pick back up the hobby you fell off with a beginner’s knitting lesson for teens and adults. No sign-ups are required and yarn will be provided, but please bring your own knitting needles.
Adult Mixed Media Crafting – Wood blocks: August 2nd @ 6pm
Create your own unique work of art using wooden blocks, paper, paint, and a variety of other mixed media. This program is aimed at teens and adults and participants must sign up in advance by visiting the library, sending an email, or calling. The sign-up date is TBA.
BYG vs BML – Ice Cream Social: August 9th @ 6pm
Can the Blaisdell Youth Group triumph in a contest of smarts against the librarians of BML?! It’s a head to head competition in games of trivia and more to see who comes out on top! Afterwards, BYG members celebrate the end of another fantastic summer with an ice cream social.
Tailwinds Raptors and SRP Wrap-up: August 11th @ 11am at the Nottingham Rec Center
Summer reading ends with a special visit from the Tailwinds Raptors program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and in partnership with Nottingham Parks and Rec. Meet some incredible birds of prey in person and learn more about them. Afterwards, return to the library for ice cream, raffles, and more fun as a send-off to summer!
