Flash Fiction workshop with James Patrick Kelly on Thursdays the 9th and 16th of January at 6:30 PM
You’ve always wanted to write stories, but maybe you’re a little bit intimidated? Or haven’t got the time? Have you considered writing Flash Fiction? A Flash Fiction story is usually about 1,000 words long – that’s just a little over three typed pages. Nottingham resident James Patrick Kelly, who teaches Creative Writing at the University of Southern Maine, will conduct a free beginner’s workshop in this popular short-short form on January 8th at 6:30 PM. Using examples and exercises, Jim will show you how to build a story in just a thousand words, even if you’ve never written fiction before. January marks the kickoff of the New Hampshire Writers Project annual Three Minute Fiction Slam, a statewide competition for Flash Fiction writers, that runs through March. With the tools you’ll get in Jim’s workshop , you can write your Flash Fiction and gather again at the library on January 16th at 6:30 PM for a reading and no-stress feedback session. Who knows? You may be inspired to enter the Three Minute Fiction Slam!

Blaisdell Youth Group Holiday Party :: Wednesday, 18 December 2019 :: 6:30 PM
The BYG (Blaisdell Youth Group) will be having a Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 18th at 6:30 PM. Bring a friend – refreshments, chat, and games will be on hand. Stop by and check it out!
The BYG meets on the third Wednesday of the month in the Library meeting room. Kids in grades 5-8 are welcome – no RSVP necessary. From comic books to computers, we have a full year of activities planned!
Break from regularly scheduled children’s programs on 11/26 and 11/27; stop by for a drop-in craft!
There will be a recess in children’s programming on Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th; the library is CLOSED on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th.
Instead, at the beginning of the week, stop by the library during open hours for a drop-in craft! Instructions and materials will be available in the children’s room, and children and their families are welcome to complete the craft in the library, or take it home!

Understanding bobcats in New Hampshire :: Thursday, December 12th, 6:30 PM
“Each night, it moves two to seven miles, mostly along the same route. Along the way, it visits known locales, much like the humans in whose shadow it lives. But its stomping grounds are a hollow log or two, a brush pile or thicket, and caverns hidden in rock ledges. It’s a bobcat, and only rarely does it cross paths with people. Or so we thought. In fact, bobcats are among us, quietly, stealthily making their way over hill and dale. On Thursday, December 12th, at 6:30 PM, we invite you to attend a presentation on Lynx rufus, the bobcat! A guest presenter from the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game will detail the bobcat’s role in the wildlife history of the state, and discuss the results of exciting new research into the animal’s current place in local ecosystems.
This event is free and open to the public. The Blaisdell Memorial Library has accessible parking, an accessible restroom on both floors, and a lift to the lower level.
