Afterschool Sign-Ups

Sign ups for the first Fall session of children’s programming are now open, from today through Tuesday, October 28th. We are encouraging all parents to use the online forms below, rather than the usual calling, to streamline the process.

If you have any problems with the online forms or need help filling them out, please contact the library front desk..

New Mah-Jongg Session

Starting Friday, September 19th, the Mah-Jongg club will be holding a second weekly game session at 10am, in addition to their usual Wednesday 11:30am meetings!

Beginners and those looking to learn the rules for the first time are particularly welcome to Friday’s game, for the opportunity to learn step by step with fellow players.

Please contact the library if you have any questions.

New Programs for Fall

Starting in September, BML will be launching four new regular programs for both adults and children!

First, starting on September 2nd we will be adding the Backyard Bookworms to our regular line up of children’s programming. This is a new combined story and playtime focused on getting outside and learning in the library’s backyard! They will be held every Tuesday at 1pm during programming sessions. Backyard Bookworms will be held rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately for the days weather!

After this, celebrating the enthusiasm we saw during our Summer Crafting group, we will be launching the new 11 O’ Craft group for adult crafters who want to try their hands at new projects! 11 O’ Craft will be held every second Wednesday of the month, at 11am and will offer unique activities brought to you by library staff! The first 11 O’ Craft will be exploring botanical art.

Next, we’re proud to announce the new Casual Critics movie discussion group! This is an adult program similar to our book groups, but aimed at cinephiles and those interested in watching more movies! Sessions will be held the second Thursday of each month, at 5pm, with that month’s movie being available for borrowing in advance. Borrow your copy or stream at home, then join in thoughtful discussion of what you’ve watched!

The first session of the Casual Critics will be held on Thursday, September 11th, at 5pm. Our movie is the 1995 docudrama, Apollo 13.

Finally, we’re introducing the Homesteaders’ Hub, a casual discussion and learning group for community members who are homesteaders or thinking about becoming one! This is a monthly group that will typically be held on the third Thursday of each month, at 5pm. We will be bringing in presenters covering a variety of topics, but there may also be food-related activities and open houses to give our members the chance to share their own knowledge with others!

The first session of the Homesteaders’ Hub will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 4:30pm, with a special presentation.

Blaisdell Memorial Library is excited to expand our offerings to the community and explore new opportunities for programming! We hope you will drop in and explore all we have coming.

Afterschool Club Signups

Blaisdell Memorial Library’s afterschool clubs will be returning starting September 9th and will run for six weeks until October 16th.

Sign-ups for all programs will be open between Tuesday, August 19th and Friday, August 23rd. We will be closed on Saturday the 30th, so please make sure to contact the library between those days! Afterwards, we will select club members and contact all families over the next week. If we are unable to fit your child into a club during this session, we can add their name to our waitlist for the next.

For this session, we are moving to using our new online forms to sign-up. Links to our forms will be posted to the library website on the 19th!

Teen Open House

Wednesday, July 16th at 6pm

Do you have a child in middle school or early high school? Ever been curious about what the Blasidell Youth Group does, or what kind of activities the Middle School Club gets up to? Drop by our Teen Open House!

Try out new things, play some games, meet your fellow members, and share food and drink! All are welcome!

Afternoon Program Sign-ups

BML’s current programming session of story hours and afterschool clubs will be ending on Saturday, April 19th with our Family Story Hour. After this point, there will be a two week break for planning and April Vacation activities before the final spring session begins.

All sign-ups for our afterschool programs, including STEAM, Middle School, and Lego+ Club will be open from Tuesday, April 22nd until Saturday, April 26th. Parents or guardians should call or email the library to sign their children up during these days. We are unable to accept any names for future sessions after April 26th. We do not currently offer online sign-ups.

Our afterschool programs work using a lottery system rather than being first-come, first-serve: We prioritize any children on our waitlist from the previous session and then draw from all of our sign-ups received in the week, with remaining names being added to our next waitlist. We will contact all parents to let you know about your child’s status through the week of the 28th.

The coming spring session will be our final programming session before we reach Summer Reading.

With a distinct flavor and incredible versatility, sourdough has become a rising star in the world of baking. Learn about its rich history and the many ways to use it at home with a demonstration by Adrienne Pasquale of Titus 2 Breads. Get a sample of your own dried starter and learn how to care for it, as well as how to use it in a simple bread.

Having fun with sourdough? Ask about BML’s Cookbook Group to put your new skills into practice!

Sign-ups for this program are now full. If you would like to be added to our waitlist, please call or email to do so!

January 2024 STEAM & LEGO + Club Sign-up

Sign-ups open from 12/27 to 1/3

The first children’s session of 2024 will begin on January 9th and run until February 17th. Due to high interest and limited space, Blaisdell Memorial Library uses a lottery system for participation in our afterschool clubs.

During the sign-up period, families who call the library will enter into a pool of interested participants. At the end of the sign-up period, we will draw from that pool to determine the session’s club members.

Participants who are not chosen for this session will have their names added to the waitlist. In this session and future ones, wait-listed participants may have priority sign-ups.

STEAM Club (Grades 3-6) is held every Tuesday at 3pm. LEGO+ Club (Grades K-2) is held every Thursday at 3pm. For more information, please contact the library front desk.

The final children’s session of 2023 will begin on October 31st and run until December 15th. Due to high interest and limited space, Blaisdell Memorial Library will be using a lottery system for participation in this session’s afterschool clubs.

During the sign-up period, families who call the library will enter into a pool of interested participants.
