Take and Make Craft

Hello,

Welcome to Summer Reading weekly craft. This week we are making Rainbow Jellyfish and craft kits are available for pick up at the library. If you can’t make it in, here is a list of materials: Paper bowl, ribbon or streamers, tissue paper or magazine (or wrapping paper), google eyes, tape and glue.

  • Tape ribbon or streamers (you choose the length of your Jellyfish tentacles) to the inside of the bowl.
  • Glue colorful paper pieces to the outside of the bowl (tuck the tentacles inside the bowl while you glue)
  • When dry…add some eyes to your creature
  • OPTIONAL-attach a string to the center of the bowl to hang

Thanks for joining us for Summer Reading craft. I hope you have fun creating!

See you for next week’s craft!

We’re Here For You –

We take your health and ours seriously. Therefore, we’ve instituted a policy of wiping down door handles, desks, and computer keyboards/mice multiple times per day. We’re wiping down books as they come in and encouraging those who are sick to visit the library on another day. For those who are unable to visit the library we want to remind you that we have a wealth of downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks available in OverDrive via the NH Downloadable Books Consortium in cooperation with the New Hampshire State Library. With your Blaisdell Memorial Library card you have access. For those who have not done so, download the Libby app to your phone or tablet, enter your library card number (from the back of your card) and PIN (for most it is their 7-digit phone number if they have a 603 number, or your 10-digit phone number if you have a cell number from another area), and you have a wealth of books at hand. If you have any questions about your account or setting one up, please call us at 679-8484, or stop by when you get a chance.

We have had news of several area museums to which we offer passes, having closed for the next several weeks including:

The Museum of Fine Arts – Boston
The New England Aquarium
The Museum of Science – Boston
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Should we have any changes in service hours or offerings, we’ll be sure to update this site ASAP. Take care, stay healthy, and make the most of your time with good books.

Flash Fiction workshop with James Patrick Kelly on Thursdays the 9th and 16th of January at 6:30 PM

You’ve always wanted to write stories, but maybe you’re a little bit intimidated? Or haven’t got the time? Have you considered writing Flash Fiction? A Flash Fiction story is usually about 1,000 words long – that’s just a little over three typed pages. Nottingham resident James Patrick Kelly, who teaches Creative Writing at the University of Southern Maine, will conduct a free beginner’s workshop in this popular short-short form on January 8th at 6:30 PM. Using examples and exercises, Jim will show you how to build a story in just a thousand words, even if you’ve never written fiction before. January marks the kickoff of the New Hampshire Writers Project annual Three Minute Fiction Slam, a statewide competition for Flash Fiction writers, that runs through March. With the tools you’ll get in Jim’s workshop , you can write your Flash Fiction and gather again at the library on January 16th at 6:30 PM for a reading and no-stress feedback session. Who knows? You may be inspired to enter the Three Minute Fiction Slam!

*Please register – Limited to 12 participants*

Registration can be completed in person at the library circulation desk during open hours, by phone at (603) 679-8484, or by email addressed to bmlcirculationdesk@gmail.com.
